If the Spring 2017 collections told us anything, it was that accessories are just as important, if not more important, than the clothes themselves. To quote one of my favourite fashion designers Michael Kors:
“The perfect accessory can make the difference between looking blah and totally to die for.”
Not only that, but the accessories this season are Instagram Gold! There is embellishment galore stuffed with a little bit of kitsch, lots of colour and bling (can you still use that word)?!
So get ready to see your Instagram/Snapchat feeds explode as these accessories are ready to be snapped in the most exotic of locations and at chicest events! Yes, that’s right their life is better than yours….
If you follow me on Instagram (@huntinginheels), you will have seen the recent post of my new metallic tuxedo jacket, from CUE. This limited edition jacket is one of my favourite pieces in their new FW15 collection. The sparkly fabric is soft to the touch, crafted from the most luxurious fabric, imported from Italy. The tailoring is impeccable and I am just as excited to wear it to work as I am to wear it on a night out.
I am pairing mine with a black sheer shirt and some skinny embossed black pants, both from CUE. This jacket also works well with some slouchy black pants, as the structure of the jacket adds instant polish to any look.
70’s without the cheesy disco element, Rodarte’s FW15 collection revived the sequin and reworked Olivia Newton-John’s Grease trousers, all in a modern way. The look was modest and elegant in ways, but with daring sheer fabrics and form-fitting silouhettes.
A twist on the classic Spring trend, this suede trench from Gucci’s SS15 collection is a retro inspired dream with a hand tied belt and heavy, round buttons. Wear with wide leg trousers and a soft knit, both in neutral tones, for maximum effect.
A day out at the Perth tennis final of the Hopman Cup, had me inspired! The sports luxe trend has been big for the past few seasons, a look pioneered by Alexander Wang, who is now exploring it further, with his role at Balenciaga.
No longer limited to the sports arena, the track pant has morphed into a symbol of easy elegance and carefree class. Fabrics are stretchy and breathable, while colours are Hi-Vis in shiny textures.
For this particular look I went for the textured top with slouchy track pants, keeping the palette monochrome. The shoes are the only burst of colour, with their neon tones paying homage to the fashion forward trainers by the big name sports brands.
Karl Lagerfeld’s Spring 2015 Haute Couture collection for Chanel was an explosion of blossoming flowers, bunched in wedding-worth bouquets at the shoulders and delicately gracing hems of mid-length evening wear.
Possibly a commentary on a technological and synthetic future that awaits us, each flower was flawless and meticulously sown by hand on to each garment. Karl’s ability to set trends and yet retain the classic aesthetic of Gabrielle Chanel grows with each collection, as we are swept into Karl’s world. There is always a story to be told and an underlying comment to be made when considering the world of today.
